Term Lecturer in Canadian and Indigenous History

The Department of History at Simon Fraser University invites applications for a two-year full-time term Lecturer position. This entry-level position is in Canadian History with a specialization in Indigenous history. Only those holding or those eligible to be appointed to the rank will be considered. The position starts September 1, 2021. The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. in Canadian history, completed by the appointment start date. The focus of the Ph.D. should be on Indigenous history or a related field. Experience teaching at the university level to a diverse student body is desirable. The successful candidate will teach six courses annually over two or three semesters (SFU operates year-round, with Fall, Spring, and Summer terms) and work with the Department’s undergraduate studies committee to develop and refine the Indigenization and decolonization of the curriculum. The expected teaching includes lower-division courses in Canadian history, such as the first half of the Canadian history survey (HIST 101) and the Social History of Canada (HIST 204), and both halves of the History of Aboriginal Peoples in North America (HIST 325 and HIST 326). Additional courses will be assigned by the Chair of the Department in accordance with the successful candidate's areas of specialization.
