ASSISTANT PROFESSOR OF ENGLISH, full-time, tenure-track position in Creative Writing (open genre), beginning August 1, 2019 (position number 84560); position contingent upon clearance and availability of funding. Duties and Responsibilities: teach M.A.- and Ph.D.-level courses in creative writing area(s) of specialization; teach introductory and upper division courses in literature, composition, and creative writing; student advising; publish in area(s) of specialization; participate in departmental and university service; other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications: Ph.D. or equivalent terminal degree in English or Creative Writing from a college or university of recognized standing (ABD will be considered, but all requirements for degree must be completed by August 2019); dissertation, thesis, and/or substantial publications in Creative Writing that engages with native Hawaiian, “Local” and/or other Hawai`i based subject matter; strong commitment to and evidence of excellence in teaching and service; and demonstrated ability to work effectively and collegially. Desirable Qualifications: experience in teaching multiple genres; knowledge of and background in native Hawaiian, “Local” and/or other literatures of Hawai`i. Salary: commensurate with credentials and experience.
