The Department of History at Simon Fraser University invite applications for a two-year full-time term Assistant Professor position with the possibility of renewal for up to one additional year, subject to budget availability. This is a position in Canadian History with a specialization in Indigenous history. The position starts September 1, 2020. The successful candidate will teach four courses over two semesters annually (SFU operates year-round, with Fall, Spring, and Summer terms). The successful candidate will be expected to teach the first half of the Canadian history survey (HIST 101) and both halves of the History of Aboriginal Peoples in North America (HIST 325 and HIST 326). Additional courses will be assigned by the chair of the History Department to be determined by the successful candidate's areas of specialization. All qualified candidates are encouraged to apply; however, Canadian citizens and Permanent Residents will be given priority. SFU is an equity employer and encourages applications from all qualified individuals including women, persons with disabilities, visible minorities, Indigenous Peoples, people of all sexual orientations and gender identities, and others who may contribute to the further diversification of the university. This is an entry-level term position. Only those holding or those eligible to be appointed to the rank will be considered. The position is subject to availability of funding. Please note that almost all teaching at SFU in the fall term 2020 will be conducted through remote methods. Application to this position acknowledges that it is the responsibility of the instructor to adapt their teaching to these unusual circumstances. Assistance with adapting to these changes will be available from the Centre for Educational Excellence. Review of applications will begin on June 30, 2020 and will continue until the position is filled. Applicants should submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae, teaching portfolio (including a statement of teaching philosophy, sample teaching materials, and course evaluations), a full course outline for one of the courses noted above (HIST 101, HIST 325, or HIST 326), and one sample publication.
