The Department of Anthropology, Faculty of Arts at the University of Manitoba invites applications for a full-time tenure-track position in Socio-Cultural Anthropology at the rank of Assistant Professor that will commence 1 July 2021. Applicants must have a PhD in Anthropology or a related discipline at the time of appointment. The department is seeking a socio-cultural anthropologist with a strong program of research that complements and enhances the current strengths of the Department and the University. The Department seeks to recruit a socio-cultural anthropologist. We are particularly interested in candidates who critically engage with contemporary issues of pressing concern including health, human rights, race, power, difference, and inequality. Priority areas for the department include: critical race theory, decolonization, Indigenization, religion and spirituality, sex and sexuality, and transnational forced migration. We encourage applicants with an orientation toward community engagement, activist anthropology, or public anthropology.
Duties will include undergraduate teaching, graduate teaching and supervision, research, and service to the University community. Teaching duties will include foundational courses in socio-cultural anthropology at the first and second year levels, and more advanced undergraduate and graduate courses according to the candidate's areas of specialization and the Department's needs. The successful candidate will be expected to attract research funds and carry out an independent research program leading to peer-reviewed publication. Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
