Indigenous Knowledges and the western academy II
Just to put the keynote address of Professor Graham Hingangaroa Smith into perspective - this happened as part of the Into the academy: Indigenous Knowledges protocols, ethics, philosophies and methodologies in higher education symposium held at the University of Sydney 14 - 15 December 2009 see http://conferences.arts.usyd.edu.au/index.php?cf=29 for abstracts of papers.
The idea of this symposium was to begin a conversation about ways forward in terms of incorporating Indigenous Knowledges and approaches to protocols, ethics, philosophy, research methodologies and pedagogies that are informed by IK development.

Call to an Aboriginal summit in Canberra
Goodooga, northwest NSW, 17 December 09 -- Aboriginal political activist, Michael Anderson, is calling for Elders from around the country to join him in Canberra for a ‘New Way’ summit on 30 January and 1 February next year.
The summit will be at the Aboriginal Centre ‘Jabal’ at the Australian National University (ANU).
“This summit is important for our future in order to take back our right to make our own decisions and stamp out the government-appointed spokespersons,” Mr Anderson argues in a media release.
